X.Org Foundation Membership
Membership of the X.Org Foundation is open and free to all contributors, and you are not required to be a member to participate in X.Org activities. People are welcome to participate in any case. Just do it!
To vote for the board of directors or to hold a position in X.Org, membership is required. Examples of acceptable contributions qualifying for membership in the X.Org Foundation include coding, bug-fixing, testing, design, documentation, translation, administration or maintenance of project-wide resources, giving X Window talks at conferences and community coordination such as the bugzilla or release management. Any activity, such as advocacy or submitting bug reports, must substantially exceed the level of contribution expected of an ordinary user or fan of the project to qualify an individual for membership in the Foundation.
These activities need not be just the base X Window System: we consider contributions of this order to projects based on top of the X Window System equally valid contributions for membership by interested people in the X.Org Foundation.
Applications for Membership are now being accepted, and active participants in the further development of the X Window System are invited to visit: http://www.x.org/XOrg''Foundation''Membership.html to complete a membership application. Participation in the Foundations Sponsor Group is also available to those who wish to financially support the activities The X.Org Foundation. Current Sponsors include Hewlett Packard, IBM, and SUN Microsystems.
Election of the first board of directors of the X.Org Foundation by the membership is planned for June.
