The X.Org Foundation
Open Source Implementation of The X Window System
The X.Org Foundation provides an open source implementation of the X Window System. The development work is being done as part of the [http://freedesktop.org freedesktop.org] community.

News and upcoming Events
X.Org will be present on LinuxTag 2006 in Wiesbaden, Germany May 3 - 6 2006. Currently we are still looking for people who would like to present things on the booth. Check LinuxTagOrganization2006 if you would like to present something or if you just want to help out.
The [http://www.desktopcon.org/ Desktop Developers' Conference] will be held July 17 and 18, 2006, in Ottawa prior to OLS.

Most Recent Releases
Current X.Org Foundation release
X.Org has released [:X11R71Release:X11R7.1]. [:XorgReleases:Click here] for a list of all X.Org releases.
Important: If you have an older release, please see [:SecurityPage:the security page] for information on an advisory issued 2006-03-20.
Next X.Org Foundation release
The next major release after the 7.1 release is X11R7.2. For a list of proposed changes, please read ChangesForX11R72. In addition, at least one more minor maintenance release of the 6.8.x and/or 6.9.x series is also planned.
Development snapshots
Development snapshots are currently on hiatus. Most modules now update slowly enough that frequent snapshots aren't needed. The server itself is still quite volatile; snapshots of it will probably resume shortly.
Reporting problems, asking questions and getting help
- Check to see if your question is answered in the ["FAQ"].
Use the xorg product in the [https://bugs.freedesktop.org freedesktop bugzilla] to report bugs against the XOrg. ([http://bugzilla.gnome.org/ Gnome's bugzilla suggestions] are well worth looking over if you are new to reporting bugs with systems like bugzilla.)
Send other questions or comments to xorg@lists.freedesktop.org.
- Or get help on XorgIRC.
Development
If you are interested in helping in our efforts to improve the X Window System technology, please have a look at our DevelopersPages. Please remember that X is just one component of the overall free desktop and that therefore future X enhancements should be thought through with this perspective.
Information for developers
Start reading the DevelopersPages.
- Read the ["DevelopersFAQ"].
Read the ToDo, and add to it if you think it's lacking.

XInput Hotplug Extensions
We are working on a new revision of the XInput extension that will allow the server to pick up new input devices as they are added. The work is being tracked on the ["XInputHotplug"] page.

Fixing bugs
Bugs assigned to the pseudo-user xorg-team@lists.x.org need someone to take ownership of them. If you feel qualified to fix the bug, feel free to take ownership of the bug by reassigning it to yourself.
To Do
See the ToDo page for a list of tasks that need to be done specific to Xorg. A more comprehensive list [http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/FreedesktopProjects of unfinished X related projects] (not necessarily involving working on the server package itself) is also available.
Mailing Lists
On [:XorgMailingLists:this page] you can find a list of X-related mailing lists hosted on lists.freedesktop.org. More mailing lists on X Window System and related technologies along with subscription directions are available at [http://lists.x.org/ XOrg Foundation].
